Why are we campaigning
to ban the plastic bag
from Barnes?

Our roadsides, beaches and parks are littered with plastic bags and they blow into our trees, out of reach.

90% of floating marine debris is plastic. It gets into the sea by wind or river and as plastic does not biodegrade, it accumulates.

Birds and fish eat the plastic because it mimics the food they eat – zooplankton. The resulting painful internal blockage eventually kills them.

Or they may find themselves caught up in plastic and die because fins, flippers or wings cannot function properly.

An animal killed by plastic decomposes and releases the plastic, only to kill again.

On a local scale it makes our environment look ugly.
